Boyz in the hood
In the opening seconds of this film the first things we hear are sirens, cars skidding, gunshot noises and screams, this instantly alerts the viewers that there is danger and the police calls further display the genre to be crime. We hear the voice of a small child crying that his brother has been shot , this emotive dialogue shows the viewer what they can expect. Something else that symbolises danger is the bold red stop sign, it is a close up shot and it foreshadows the bad things that are going to happen. The film is set in South central los angeles in the year 1984. The film starts outside and it is day time and a group of children are walking to school, it is a medium long shot, we can see what the area the are walking through is like, we see stray dos and it gives the impression that it is not looked after and we get the feeling of it being run down. The children and the people in the background are wearing normal clothing- this could be to make the film feel more realistic to the audience. On the way to school they stop off at a crime scene where somebody had recently been shot, this would most probably shock the viewer and show them what it would really be like to live in that area.
