The film legally blonde shows stereotypes of young girls to be unclever. Although the main character towards the end overcomes these stereotypes up until this point the girls around her and her are made out to be stupid. In the opening scene the first thing that the audience sees is a close up shot of her blonde hair, this links in with her stereotype. We see the character only doing things to improve her appearance whilst getting ready such as painting her nails for example and nothing that would imply that she has an education.

The call movie poster
When looking at this poster the first thing to be noticed is the bright red colour. This colour is alarming to the audience and instantly brings to mind danger. The mention of 911 at the top of the poster tells people that the genre is or is related to crime. The map going across her face shows us that the film is set in America and that maybe some traveling around is involved. The look on the characters face also adds to the suggestion of danger as she looks very fearful.

What lies beneath opening scene
The opening scene of the film is set in the inside of a house, the house appears to be normal and the character inside is dressed in normal clothing also. You can tell that it is late at night because through the curtains you can see that it is dark outside. Because it is dark outside it adds to the fear in the atmosphere. The inside of the house itself is well lit, this could be because the woman is afraid of the dark and the unknowing that comes with it so she is trying to eliminate it. The characters body language suggests that she is afraid, we can also tell this by the way she lightly treads and tip toes around her own house, she is also seen to be checking around corners before she moves along to he next part of the house. Another thing that shows  the audience the genre, is the eerie non-diegetic music, it is quite low in pitch and this accompanied by the camera following her and lurking around corners creates a haunting feeling. When the character enters the bathroom the scene is very well lit but it is cloudy and steamy from the condensation, this cloudiness could be representing her confusion. She seems surprised to see the bath filled with water, this shows the audience that she is not the one who has ran it. The condensation also tells the audience that it was ran recently and that it was still hot this leads them to assume that the person that done it is still in her house. This is further backed up by the reflection she sees behind her in the mirror, it is very fain and we are jus about able to see it. When the character begins to shout and as she leaves the bathroom the non-diegetic music gets louder and more dramatic, and as she runs through the house it begins to get darker, this tells the viewer that the situation is becoming more and more dangerous. When we get to the end of the clip the music continues to get louder and the pitch gets higher and more squeaky.

  Ghost ship opening scene
The film is set in the middle of the sea on a ship, this means that if anything goes wrong the characters are stuck. The people on the boat are wearing fairly ordinary clothing and are behaving normally. The lighting on the boat is very bright but as it is night time , outside of the boat is dark. The scene begins with a woman singing on stage. She is in a red dress and this could be symbolising danger, for the first 3 minutes or so, all we see is the people on the boat and we hear the digetic music. At this moment in time the audience are shown an ordinary scene and at this point they may not think anything is wrong. When we see the lever being pulled, the footage of the people dancing switches to slow motion. As the wire unravels the music begins to fade out quickly. We hear the noises of the wire.  The scene is frozen and the camera slowly films the whole of the boat, all we hear is silence apart from the squeaking of the wire, this creates a sinister atmosphere. The shot is a close up and it allows the viewer to focus on solely this. When alll the people have been sliced up we hear the haunting shriek of the girl that managed not to get cut. All of these these things show the genre of the film to be horror/thriller.

  Harry brown opening scene
The low key lighting instantly creates a dramatic and mysterious atmosphere, this leaves the audience with a feeling of unease from not knowing completely what is going on. It would appear that the film was set on an estate in an urban area of London. It looks as if though the characters are crowding in a small area, possibly a subway footpath. The body language of the characters is rough and course, a sense of peer pressure is evident. We see a lot of graffiti on the estate when the motor biker drives through which leads us to assume it is probably an area of deprivation, not only this but that there is a lack of respect from the vandals for the people that live there. These things show to the audience the type of area  that it is. The opening scene is set in the daytime, so when we move out of the dark area there is a large contrast in lighting. This could be representing the contrast between this group of people and the rest of society, the darkness is representing the bad and the light would be representing the innocent and good. This links in with them wearing dark clothing and the victim that they shoot wearing lightly coloured clothing. On the subject of their clothing, the hoodies shroud their faces creating a sense of menace. In the opening scene alone there are themes of drugs, violence and peer pressure, this shows the viewer straight away what type of film they are going to be watching. We aren't able to tell a great deal about these characters from the opening scene but we can tell that they probably don't have jobs because they are out and not working, another things that leads us to think this is that one of the characters mentions stealing something, if they had jobs they wouldn't need to steal. We can see and hear that this group of characters are males and that they are fairly young because of the slang they are using. When we see one of the characters faces whilst riding the motorbike he appears to be filled with rage but as far as the viewer is concerned it is for no apparent reason, this makes him seem somewhat unhinged. Although the lighting is low we are able to  clearly see the guns being passed about. When we leave the darkened area the shots are filmed from the view of the motorbike and they speed up and the pace gets faster and we anticipate a heightened sense of danger. We see a lack of care as the driver spins around on the motorbike  to intimidate the woman with her child before shooting them, the baby being there highlights the hostility shown. There is no music being played , this intensifies the effect of the loud motorbike and the screams and shouts. All of these things clearly display the genre of the film to be crime.

We where assigned some genres and where asked to take some photos that showed that genre.
This shot is of an empty playground and is displaying an apocalyptic scene. It is daytime in this photo so the playground should be busy, because it is not the audience can tell that something has gone wrong . The weather in this photo is quite dull and cloudy and this creates a gloomy atmosphere. The shot has high key lighting and this means that you can see that all the areas are bare, it emphasises the solitude of the area and that there is not a single person in sight. Because there is no visible destruction it could mean that the population was wiped out by a life threatening disease. There are themes of death as apart from a select few the worlds population has died. There are no characters in sight indicating that they are in hiding, this could be because the world is no longer safe. The photo is a wide shot, this makes sure that the viewer can see everything.
